Adjusting early to the new high school environment is crucial for a

student's success over the next 4 years and is often overlooked by

parents and students. Most students leaving elementary school are

used to a "take it easy" environment where homework, stress

the level and competition is minimal. High school is different. Demand for

the student is important, from the fast paced curriculum, to the

difficulty of tests and exams. As you navigate through these challenges,

students must build a solid foundation in math and English, a solid study

habits and must develop the motivation to propel them towards their goal

long-term academic success.

This brochure is written for parents and incoming high school students to provide information on how to be successful in high school. It is organized into 3 sections: 1) Common challenges new high school students face and how to overcome them, 2) Strategies for success in Math, English, and Science, and 3) Developing study habits and motivation. The information in this brochure is derived from the Queen Elizabeth Academy's experience working with more than 1,000 high school students, many of whom were admitted to top colleges with scholarships ranging from $ 2,000 to $ 23,000. Many professors and advisers to Queen Elizabeth are enrolled at Harvard University and other major universities. They specialized in their chosen fields, from medicine to English literature, and have contributed knowledge to this booklet.
